The Triple Goddess has three faces.

The Maiden — beginning, possibility, the waxing moon, the spring that doesn’t know yet what it will become.

The Mother — fullness, creation, the full moon at its peak, the summer that is making something.

The Crone — wisdom, completion, the waning moon, the one who has seen enough to know what matters and what absolutely does not.

Today — July 1st — some Pagan and Wiccan traditions set aside as Crone Day. A day to honor the third face. The one that gets the least celebration in a culture obsessed with the first two.

The Crone appears in every tradition that has been honest enough to include her.

Hecate at the crossroads, torch in hand, standing where three roads meet because wisdom lives at the intersection not on any single path.

Baba Yaga in the forest, terrifying and helpful simultaneously, depending entirely on whether you approach her with the right question and the right respect.

The Morrigan on the battlefield, not causing the death but presiding over the truth of it — the one who sees clearly what the warriors in the middle of it cannot.

They are feared, all of them, for the same reason:

They cannot be flattered. They cannot be managed. They have outlasted the need for approval and they know exactly what they see.

That is not frightening. That is just truth with no apology attached.

#### WHY IT MATTERS TO YOU TODAY

I have been with the same woman through all three stages.

I watched her in the Maiden — the beginning, the possibility, the person still figuring out what she was made of.

I watched her in the Mother — the fullness, the making, the creative force of a woman doing what she came here to do.

And I am watching her now in the Crone.

She came from an abusive family. She spent years learning that the safest thing to do was nothing — be small, be quiet, don’t take up too much space, don’t say the thing that might cause trouble.

That was the passivity talking. The survival strategy.

It is gone now.

What’s left is something quieter than fierce and more dangerous than loud.

She has no filter anymore. She takes no unnecessary grief from anyone. In pure Generation X fashion — the generation that was told it didn’t matter and decided that was fine, actually — she is the one you don’t want to wake up.

And if you do wake her up, you earned what you get.

But here is what people who fear the Crone miss:

She is not angry. She is clarified.

The passivity burned off. The need for approval burned off. The willingness to make herself smaller than she actually is burned off.

What’s left is the steadfast thing that was always underneath — the real person, unprotected now, no longer spending energy on the performance of smallness.

Quietly steadfast.

The woman who has grown through everything that was done to her and arrived at the other side not hardened but distilled.

That is the Crone. Not the caricature. Not the frightening hag of fairy tales designed to make women afraid of their own aging and power.

The real thing. The woman who has earned her edges. The one who knows exactly what she sees and says it without apology.

Today — honor the Crones in your life.

The woman who came through something that would have broken others and came out clarified.

The one whose silence in a room is louder than anyone else’s noise.

The one you don’t want to wake up — and whose waking, when it comes, is simply the truth arriving on schedule.

She has been here all along. You just weren’t paying attention.

**If you wish, you can do this today:**

Say the word once, out loud. *“Crone.”*

Hold the image of the woman who is not angry but clarified for thirty seconds. Then notice one woman in your life who has earned her edges — and tell her, or simply honor her silently, that you see it.
