The moon is full tonight.

It rises early and stays late, enormous and warm-toned at the horizon — the way full moons always are in summer, low and golden, as if the heat has colored it.

This is the Strawberry Moon.

Named not for its color but for its timing — the Algonquin peoples who gave this moon its name knew that when this moon rose full, the wild strawberries were ripe.

The shortest ripening. The briefest window.

You had to be paying attention. You had to go out and gather while the gathering was possible, because the strawberry season does not wait for you to be ready.

It arrives. It peaks. It passes.

That is the nature of the Strawberry Moon — it is named for the most fleeting abundance, the fruit that is gone almost before you’ve noticed it arrived.

#### WHAT THIS MOON ASKS

We are eight days past the summer solstice.

The longest day has already come and gone. The year has already turned. The light is already — imperceptibly, undeniably — beginning its retreat.

And here is the Strawberry Moon, rising full in the first week of the turning, asking the question it always asks:

*Can you be present to the sweetness while it is still here?*

Not in retrospect. Not when it’s gone and you’re wishing you’d paid more attention.

Now. While the strawberries are ripe. While the evenings are still long. While the thing you have been given is still in the window of its fullness.

The Strawberry Moon is the moon of the fleeting gift.

The relationship that is good right now, today, in this particular season of two people’s lives. The health that is present right now that you have been too busy to appreciate. The child at this exact age, this exact stage, who will not be this age again. The work that is going well right now, the practice that has found its rhythm, the window of clarity that opened recently and will not stay open forever.

The strawberry does not wait.

What is ripe in your life right now that you have not yet stopped to taste?

#### YOUR PRACTICE TONIGHT

Go outside if you can.

Find the moon.

If you can’t find the moon — if clouds have it, if city light has it — just stand outside for a moment and know that it’s there, enormous and warm, doing what full moons do.

Then name one thing.

One thing in your life right now that is at its peak — its sweetest, its fullest, its most present — that you have been moving past too quickly to fully receive.

Name it out loud if you can. Whisper it if you have to. Just say it once, so that some part of you has acknowledged it before the season moves on.

The strawberry doesn’t need you to be grateful. It just needs you to taste it while it’s still there.

***And if you work with crystals — tonight’s the night. Set them out before you sleep. Let the Strawberry Moon do what full moons do. Let the light do what light does.***
